artist & educator
educator. conductor. pianist. organist.
tenor. composer. church musician.
Hello, my name is John Cornish, and I am a lifelong musician and teacher with a firm dedication to arts education and church music. Over the past fifteen years, I've taught on the full-time music faculty of three colleges and served on the music staff of five congregations in Oklahoma and Texas. I currently live and work in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, where I also freelance as a private teacher, pianist/organist, classical vocalist, and composer.
My original love of music came from piano lessons, which I started at the age of six. While most parents typically have to prod their kids to practice, I distinctly remember my mom ordering me to stop because I wouldn't quit! I eventually grew up to earn a bachelor's degree in piano performance and then masters and doctoral degrees in church music (conducting and vocal performance emphases).
Through my academic positions, I have had extensive opportunities to conduct choral and orchestral ensembles in academic, professional, and church settings. Additionally, I have skill and expertise in vocal performance, piano/organ performance, music theatre directing, and composition. I also possess a wide range of administrative abilities, including budget management, event marketing (print and social media), curriculum development, and event production.
Feel free to check out my resume, performance videos, and compositions, and drop me a line if I can be of any help to you!
