COMPOSITIONS

Like a River Glorious |
SATB w/Piano & Opt. Cello

An original setting of Frances R. Havergal's beloved hymn text. This new melody is mostly pentatonic in nature, which gave me the ability to fluidly shift between major and minor tonalities, the intent being to capture the human frailty with which we struggle to trust in God's care.

Hail, Favored One | SSAATTBB a cappella

A setting of Luke 1:28-33, specifically the words of the angel Gabriel to Mary. My goal was to express the mystery and majesty of the Annunciation, and the grace with which the angel approached the young virgin.

Currently unpublished, but available directly from me.

Festival Laudate | SATB w/Piano
& Opt. Tambourine

A high-energy setting of Psalm 117 in Latin, with a lot of fun metrical shifts between 3/4 and 6/8. Somewhat minimalistic in nature, it features a lot of repetition that makes it accessible to younger choirs.

The Dawn of Redeeming Grace |
SATB w/Piano & Opt. Orchestra

Inspired by the phrase from "Silent Night," this original text and tune tries to express the awesome nature of God's grace revealed in the moments of Christ's birth, His death, and ultimately, His return.

Currently unpublished, but available from me.

Of the Father's Love Begotten |
SATB w/Piano & Opt. Violin

For this one, I married a 4th century advent text with a haunting Gaelic melody of unknown origin. I've always loved this text, but find that many churches overlook it because it is commonly sung to the rather difficult DIVINUM MYSTERIUM tune.

O Love That Will Not Let Me Go |
SATB w/Piano

An arrangement of one of my favorite hymns and its commonly paired ST. MARGARET tune. Written during a time of great personal pain, I really wanted to capture both the truth of God's love and our struggle to accept that love as a reality.

What Child is This? | SATB w/Piano

An arrangement of the classic Christmas hymn. I tried to bring a few fresh elements to this version; specifically, I used a 4-bar harmonic progression throughout that differs greatly from the original. I also utilized portions of the hymn text that are often removed in favor of the "This, This is Christ the King" refrain. This allowed me to highlight the fact that the infant would one day give Himself as a sacrifice upon the cross.

Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing | SATB w/Piano

A rousing arrangement of the classic hymn. My choirs throughout the years have LOVED performing this one. It works very well as a call to worship.

O Little Town of Bethlehem |
SATB w/Piano

A new melodic setting of the well-known carol. One of my favorite aspects of this work is how the melody accentuates the internal rhymes that Phillips Brooks used in the second line of each stanza.

Praise, My Soul | SATB w/Piano

A new melodic setting of the classic hymn Praise, My Soul the King of Heaven, based on Psalm 103. Whereas the classic tune to which this text is sung (LAUDA ANIMA) is more regal in nature, I chose to go for a more worshipful setting in hopes of highlighting the tender mercy and care our Father bestows upon us.

Abide with Me | SATB w/Piano

This was my first published composition, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. This is new melodic setting of the Henry Lyte text, a hymn he wrote shortly before his death. I tried to paint the text in a way the expressed not only the sorrow of departing one's mortal life, but the unspeakable joy of the moment when "Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee."
